Diane Van Ausdall has been an educator for over forty years. During this time, she was selected as a Teacher of the Year, Milken National Educator, and National Technology Teacher of the Year. As a result, her classroom was featured in U.S. News and World Report as one of six classrooms in the nation where "technology really works." Students in Diane's classes excelled and received recognition for their outstanding accomplishments because Diane employed motivational strategies to encourage students to work up to their ability and go beyond their expectations. Many years ago, she recognized the power of "backward design."

Diane has taught students of all ability levels from special education to gifted to advanced placement, as well as college students. In the last fifteen years, Diane has concentrated on presenting workshops to teachers and administrators on how to integrate technology into the curriculum, develop performance-based assessments, establish peer review groups, and implement curricula based on the Standards. At the time of her retirement from teaching, she was the District Curriculum Coordinator for Understanding by Design. In the last five years, Diane has conducted numerous workshops promoting Understanding by Design in schools throughout the country with a special emphasis on how UbD can be implemented in a school district. She is also an Expert Reviewer for ASCD's UbD Exchange.

Diane's workshops are appropriate for all grade levels and all subject areas. She is equally at home with various audiences from beginning and experienced teachers, to district administrators, as well as college professors and boards of education.
